Rodent-Proof
Your Property
Rats and mice are relentless invaders. They can squeeze through gaps the width of a pencil and chew through wood, plastic, and even mild steel.
Why Rodents Target Your Home
As the weather cools, rodents seek warmth and shelter. Your roof void and wall cavities provide the perfect nesting ground. Once inside, they pose serious risks: chewing through electrical wiring (fire hazard) and contaminating food surfaces with disease-carrying droppings.
1 Seal Entry Points
A mouse can enter through a 6mm gap; a rat needs only 12mm. If a head fits, the body follows.
- Seal penetrations around pipes (gas/water) with steel wool or concrete (rodents chew expanding foam).
- Install metal kick plates or door seals on garage doors and shed entries.
- Check weep holes in brickwork—install weep hole protectors if necessary.
2 Secure The Roof
Roof Rats (Black Rats) are agile climbers. They access homes via overhanging branches and power lines.
- Install heavy-gauge mesh over roof vents and eaves gaps.
- Repair broken roof tiles immediately.
- Trim tree branches back at least 2 metres from the roofline.
3 Starve Them Out
Rodents have a high metabolism and feed constantly. Deny them easy meals.
- Do not leave pet food out overnight—this is the #1 attractant.
- Store bulk items (rice, flour, pet kibble) in hard plastic or metal containers.
- Pick up fallen fruit from garden trees promptly.
4 Remove Harbourage
Rats are neophobic (fear new things) and use clutter to move unseen. Clear their runways.
- Elevate wood piles off the ground and keep them away from walls.
- Trim dense ivy or creepers on fences and walls (prime nesting spots).
- Declutter garages and sheds to eliminate hiding spots.
The "Winter-Proof" Audit
Inspect your property before winter arrives to lock rodents out.
- Check the garage door seal (rubber strip) for gaps or chew marks.
- Look for rub marks (greasy smudges) along skirting boards or walls.
- Inspect the attic/roof void for light penetrating through gaps.
- Ensure compost bins are sealed and not placed against the house.
- Check behind the dishwasher and stove for droppings.
Hearing Noises in the Roof?
Scratching noises at night usually mean rodents have already established a nest. DIY baits often fail because rats are suspicious of new food sources.
Professional Baiting Stations
We use lockable, tamper-proof stations with high-palatability baits safe for use around homes with pets and children.
