Keep Cockroaches
Out of Your Kitchen
Cockroaches are resilient survivors. To stop them, you must remove their access to food, water, and their favourite hiding spots.
Understanding the Threat
Cockroaches, particularly the German Cockroach, are masters of infiltration. They don't just walk in—they are often carried in via cardboard boxes, grocery bags, and second-hand appliances. Once inside, they breed rapidly in warm, humid areas like behind your fridge or under the sink.
1 Deep Sanitation
Cockroaches thrive on grease and starch. A crumb behind the stove is a feast for a colony.
- Clean grease buildup from stovetops, range hoods, and oven sides regularly.
- Do not leave dirty dishes in the sink overnight—roaches are most active at night.
- Vacuum food particles from under the toaster and microwave.
2 Declutter
Cockroaches love corrugated cardboard. They eat the glue and hide in the folds.
- Remove all cardboard boxes from the home. Use plastic tubs for storage.
- Don't store stacks of paper bags or newspapers next to the fridge.
- Inspect grocery deliveries and boxes before bringing them inside.
3 Seal Entry Points
Roaches love tight spaces ("thigmotaxis"). Sealing cracks limits their movement between rooms.
- Seal gaps around plumbing pipes where they enter walls (under sinks/behind toilets).
- Caulk cracks in kitchen cupboards and along splashbacks.
- Ensure flyscreens are tight-fitting to stop entry from outside.
4 Remove Water
Cockroaches can live weeks without food but only days without water.
- Fix dripping taps immediately.
- Empty pet water bowls at night or place them away from the house.
- Check the drip tray under the refrigerator—this is a prime breeding ground.
The "Roach-Free" Audit Checklist
Run through this list every 3 months to ensure your home remains defended.
- Pull out the fridge and vacuum the motor/compressor area.
- Inspect under the kitchen sink for leaks or damp wood.
- Remove all cardboard boxes from the pantry and garage.
- Clean the grease trap or range hood filters.
- Check dishwasher seals for food debris accumulation.
Still Seeing Roaches?
German cockroaches breed faster than almost any other pest. If you see one during the day, the infestation is likely severe.
Professional Flush-Out Treatment
We use specialised gels and growth regulators (IGRs) that break the breeding cycle, stopping larvae from becoming adults.
